Is AI the Latest Trend in Franchising?

You’ve heard all the hype about AI taking over – everything! And while AI has become an important in the discussion for all sectors, AI can’t replace a human caregiver, a home inspection professional, or a certified massage therapist. AI has its place. It can assist franchise owners in key areas such as marketing, automation, and predictive maintenance to reduce costs and improve efficiency. What it cannot do is replace humans providing services desired by consumers and clients across the country.

So let’s talk about some of the latest trends in franchising that I’m seeing that aren’t related to AI.

  • Elevated Growth Sectors: Post covid, there’s been a boom in pet care and restoration. Driven by the increase in people wanting pets to keep them company in isolation, pet care has become essential. The total US pet care market sales are projected to reach approximately $168.2 billion in 2026, driven by a 6.97% annual growth rate. And while year-over-year gains have slowed in Restoration and Home Improvement services, the total U.S. spending is expected to reach approximately $522 billion to $537 billion by the end of 2026
  • Eco-Friendly & Sustainability:  With climate change impacting all parts of the US, businesses and consumers are seeking opportunities to refurbish and repair what they have and purchase secondhand goods. Sustainable packaging, landscaping, and water conservation are also on the rise.  Franchises such as Ben & Jerry’s, Detail Xperts, and Conserva Irrigation all put eco-friendliness and sustainability at the forefront of their brands.
  • Health & Wellness: This sector appears on trend lists year after year. Let’s face it, who doesn’t want to look and feel better? But we’re seeing more niche brands taking over this space. In 2026, the health and wellness sector in the US is set to hit $7.42 Trillion (with a “T”). And with the introduction of medications such as GLP1’s becoming mainstream, the introduction of new ancillary services to complement weight loss using these medications is popping up. Franchise brands such as Medi-Weight Loss, C3 Wellness Spa, and Discover Strength are focusing on muscle strength and services that are more holistic in their approach to mind, body, and spirit.
